Dora "Dot" Van Steenburgh, 79, of Boonville, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Pilot Grove. Burial will be in the Heath Creek Cemetery near Nelson. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
She was born April 8, 1930, in Vernon County, the daughter of Lorene Frances Gooden Fornshell and George Otis Fornshell Sr. She was married to James J. Van Steenburgh, in October 1951; he preceded her in death in 1992. She worked in a restaurant as a waitress and cook for many years, and also worked for Rival Manufacturing Company in Sedalia for several years until her retirement in 1980.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Jeanne Blankenship of Independence; two sisters, Ruby Lawrence of New Franklin and Vergie Newell of Boonville; two brothers, Edgar Fornshell of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Johnny Fornshell of Nelson; several step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; three brothers, George Fornshell Jr., Elmer Fornshell and Delbert Fornshell; two sisters, Mary Lange and Ruth Lindsey.
