Freshman Margaret Albertsdottir's tiebreaking goal with 16 minutes remaining gave Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) a 3-2 victory Friday.
The Lady Senators held a 2-0 lead early in the second half, but Valley got goals from senior Sarah Bottila and junior Jesse Yach to catch up, if only briefly.
Notre Dame (Ohio) posted a 3-0 shutout behind two goals from sophomore Katie Christensen.
Although Valley took five shots on goal, junior Emilie Lamarche turned them aside for the Lady Falcons.
Senior Nicki Erickson, a former all-NCMC forward for Marshall who was a four-year starter on the Lady Vikings' tennis team, had three goals against Harris-Stowe.
Sophomore Amanda Rainier connected with the twine twice and Valley also got solo goals from Bottila, Yach, sophomore Ariel Cantrell and freshman Floxy Owere.
The Lady Vikings' defense allowed only two shots on goal, both stopped by junior Hannah Harrison. Valley (1-2) will host William Woods for a non-conference match Saturday.
Men's Soccer
ST. LOUIS -- Missouri Baptist scored three second-half goals Friday at St. Louis to ruin the opener for the Valley men's soccer team.
Junior Nyron Orr had two goals as the Spartans won the non-conference match, 4-3.
The Vikings got a pair of goals from sophomore Eduardo da Silva and another by senior Miroslav Petrovic, but was out-shot 15-11.
Valley battled Harris-Stowe State to a 1-1 non-conference road tie Monday, taking the lead on a free kick in the 58th minute.
However, a rebound by senior Lucas Rodrigues-Alves seven minutes later deadlocked the game, which went through two scoreless overtime periods.
Senior goalkeeper Igor Lima had nine saves for the Vikings (0-1-1), which is at home Saturday against William Woods.
Volleyball
FAYETTE -- The Valley women's volleyball team split four matches over the weekend in the Heart of America Conference Pre-season Tournament at Fayette.
The Lady Vikings opened the season Friday against 14th-ranked Lindenwood and were swept, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20 despite nine kills and 10 digs from senior Tricia Mowatt. Valley was beaten at the net, though, as the Lady Lions held an advantage in attack efficiency of 28.8 to 7.5 percent.
The next two matches were five-set victories for the Lady Vikings. Sophomore Ali Schrader laid down 17 spikes and freshman Jessica Gates pulled up 28 shots during a 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-10 win over Central Methodist.
Mowatt's 18 kills and 18 saves led Valley's 18-25, 29-27, 25-20, 16-25,15-11 decision against Avila on Saturday morning.
She made 17 shots and had 20 digs late in the day during a hard-fought 22-25, 25-23, 33-31, 26-24 loss to Evangel, with freshman Brittany Sedillo coming up with 31 digs.
The Lady Vikings, though, had their most effective attack of the tourney at 27.4 percent.
Sophomore Julie McNabb had 83 assists and junior Paula Tieman, a Santa Fe grad, added 68 sets and five aces for MVC.
Valley began regular season league play Tuesday at Graceland with a 25-18, 25-16, 24-26, 25-18 loss at Graceland (3-2, 1-0 HAAC), which was led by senior Molly Cornelison's 14 kills.
The Lady Vikings (2-3, 0-1) will take on CMU and Southwestern (Kan.) during a home triangular Saturday.
