Michael "Supe" Granda, founding member and bassist with The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, will headline the event.
"The Arrow Rock Folk Jam is going to be a great mix of professional and amateur musicians who are playing for the love of music," says Sandy Selby, president of the council, the organization sponsoring the event. "We wanted to create a fun, casual and free event that would encourage people to come out and make music."
The event begins at noon Saturday, Sept. 5. A stage will be set up on the Old Schoolhouse lawn and there will be other spots throughout the village where musicians can gather for informal jam sessions.
Granda, a talented musician and author of a new book about his years with popular 1970s band The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, will perform at 2 p.m. and will close the festival with another performance at 6 p.m.
He will be available for book sales and signings during the festival. Other musicians will take the stage throughout the day.
"We call it a 'folk jam,' but really, any kind of music is welcome as long as it is primarily acoustic and family-friendly," Selby says.
At 3 p.m., the Historic Arrow Rock Council will host its annual Ice Cream Freeze-Off on the Schoolhouse lawn.
The Freeze-Off is a fundraiser that supports the arts programs of HARC, Selby said.
The $3 admission entitles participants to sample all the Freeze-Off entries, vote for their favorite and fill their plates with a generous helping of ice cream and homemade desserts.
Musicians who would like to claim some stage
time at the Folk Jam should
contact Selby at
660-837-3148 or by
e-mail at president@arrowrockarts.org.
Everyone is encouraged to bring acoustic instruments and join in the jam, she said.
