Lady 'Hounds claim opener

SWEET SPRINGS -- The Sweet Springs volleyball team came from behind in the first game and stayed ahead down the stretch of the second one Monday for a 26-24, 25-22 non-conference win over visiting Braymer to begin the season.

The Lady Greyhounds were down 20-12 in the opening set, but senior Kristin Jones got on a roll during her serve -- finishing the match with three aces -- to lead the comeback.

Senior Jodie Harris had four kills and senior Kathleen Tyler provided three spikes and five assists for Sweet Springs.

The Lady Bobcats (0-1) gave up 10 aces, including three each by senior Rachel Thornton and sophomore Brittany Higgins, who combined for nine digs.

Junior Taylor Loges also had four assists for the Lady 'Hounds (1-0), who host nearby LaMonte on Thursday.
