MVCAA is one of 18 Missouri agencies that implement the state's Low Income Weatherization Assistance Program, enabling low-income Missouri families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient, according to a DNR news release.
The elderly, physically disadvantaged and families with children are program priorities, DNR officials said.
Since the program began in 1978, weatherization funds have helped to weatherize more than 155,000 Missouri homes. MVCAA serves citizens in seven northern Missouri counties: Carroll, Chariton, Johnson, Lafayette, Pettis, Ray and Saline.
The subgrant to MVCAA is from a U.S. Department of Energy grant administered by the Department's Energy Center. Additional program funding also comes from the Missouri Department of Social Services and through agreements made in rate adjustment cases by Missouri utilities to weatherize additional homes in their service areas.
The Department's Energy Center is a nonregulatory state office that works to protect the environment and stimulate the economy through energy efficiency and renewable energy resources and technologies.

would like to see a follow-up story on this - who is eligible, requirements, what they are allowed to do when they weatherize a house, when this grant takes effect, etc. lots of unanswered questions here.
It looks like, smells like, and beginning to sound like, Saline County/Marshall is not receiving Stilulus $ that was initially stated agencies such as MVCAA were to receive. Another example is Workforce Development and the NEXT GENERATION JOBS summer jobs program. A substantial amount of funds that were initally stated as coming to this area (MVCAA and WDB) for whatever reason(s)did not happen. Makes one say HHHUUUUMMMMMMMMMM.
Will MVC and MHS receive their monies in the form of grants and infrastructual??? Today, the governor annouced $4,000,000.00 in technology grants to schools.
Where is the $800,000.00 MVCAA was to receive from the Stimulus????
