Dorothy L. Palmer, 74, of Higginsville, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at Centerpoint Hospital in Independence.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia, with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial was in Malta Bend Cemetery. Born June 1, 1935, in Cross Timbers, she was the daughter of the late Frank Hackett and Othella Owsley Hackett. On Aug. 15, 1952, she married Harold F. Palmer, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1995. She lived in Malta Bend for several years and then moved to the Higginsville and Concordia areas, where she spent the remainder of her life. In her earlier years, she worked at several factories, later working as a housekeeper at The Lutheran Good Shepherd Home in Concordia and in 1996 she retired from Higginsville Habilitation Center where she was employed for over 20 years.
Survivors include two sons, Stanley Palmer of Concordia, Earnest Palmer of Camden Point; three grandsons; one step-great-grandson; three sisters, Hazel Wood of Kremmling, Colo., Bessie Johnson of Billings and Lillie Butcher of Waverly; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Walter and Ralph Hackett; and one sister, Mildred Hackett.
