Mildred L. Ward, 99, of Marshall, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at The Living Center -- Skilled Nursing Center in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Marshall. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to the church in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born July 26, 1909, in Gilliam, she was the daughter of the late Carl Henry Oscar and Sallie Bruce Lee Leimbrock. On Aug. 21, 1938, she married Martin J. Ward, who preceded her in death on June 13, 2004. She graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1931 with a Bachelor of Music. She taught vocal music in the Tulsa Public School District, before becoming a homemaker. She directed the glee club at MVC and the children's choir at Marshall Methodist Church, where she was an active member for many years. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Colonists, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Delta Zeta and Monday Club.

Survivors include two nieces, Sallie Morton of Marshall and Joyce Kief of Bloomington, Ill.; one nephew, Willard Morton of Montgomery, Texas; three great-nieces, Leesa Morton, Rebecca Morton and Jessica Morton, all of Marshall; two great-nephews, Stephen Morton of Houston, Texas, and David Morton of Austin, Texas; and three great-great-nieces, Lauryn Morton, Sarah Morton and Rebecca Morton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Christine L. Morton.
