Brandon Scott "Brutus" Charles, 29, of Sweet Springs, died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Sweet Springs, with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children. Friends may sign an online guest book at www.campbell-lewis.com.
Born July 26, 1979, in Sweet Springs, he was the son of John E. Charles and Lena F. Eskew Charles, who survive of the home. On Aug. 26, 1979, he was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Sweet Springs. He lived in Sweet Springs his entire life and was a 1997 graduate of Sweet Springs High School. He was employed at Piggly Wiggly in Sweet Springs for 11 years and was currently employed at Tyson's in Concordia. He had a love for music. He was a part of several bands, playing steel guitar, including Green River, Outlaw Junkies, Yours and Ours, and he also traveled some with Leland Martin. He also was an avid race fan and had been a member of the Micro-midget Race Association.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Kevin D. Charles of Oak Grove; maternal grandmother, Dorothy McCoy Eskew of rural Miami; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Glenn O. Eskew, and his paternal grandparents, Cecil N. Charles and Minnie S. Langewisch Charles; and one cousin, John Jeffrey Lindemann.
