The Santa Fe baseball team has three players selected on the long-awaited Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Class 1 all-state squad.
Senior shortstop Taylor Wesley (top) made the list for the third straight year after leading the Chiefs with a .579 batting average and 1.163 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging average). He hit eight homers, scored 31 runs and drove in 29 runs.
It was the second time senior pitcher Logan Kirchhoff (middle), posting an 8-0 record with 1.14 earned-run average while striking out 53 batters in 49 and a third innings.
While Wesley and Kirchhoff were first-team picks, junior shortstop-outfielder Matt Lovercamp (bottom) was named for the first time -- to the second team -- although he led Santa Fe with nine homers, 39 runs and 33 RBIs. His .477 average and 1.045 OPS were second on the team.
The defending state champions were ranked No. 1 in Class 1 for most of the season, reaching the MSHSAA Championships for the third year in a row, but the Chiefs (17-2) suffered an 8-5 loss to Dora in the June 4 title game.
