At the J. Leo Hayob Building on Tuesday, July 7, Marshall Housing Authority Director David Hayes presented Marshall Police Chief Mike Donnell with a check for $3,500 to help support the department's new canine unit.

Hayes said a drug dog working with the police force will be "definitely good for the community, definitely good for the Marshall Housing Authority."

"We're very grateful for their assistance in this program," Donnell said.

Donnell said the dog, whose name is Boomer, is still in training but should be on duty in Marshall before the beginning of August.

Also present was housing authority commissioner Karl "Bub" Caldwell.
