Margaret L. Baker, 80, of Marshall, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Steve Raglin officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Born June 16, 1929, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Green Clay Surber and Allie Lee Shatzer Surber. On April 9, 1946, she married John Ballew. In 1963, she married Edward "Rat" Baker Jr., who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1986. She had lived in Saline County her entire life and worked at Marshall Habilitation Center for 14 years as a developmental assistant I and at ConAgra for 18 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Foster Grandparent Program.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Bakert and her husband, Ron, of Marshall and Sharon Anderson and her husband, Daniel, of Iron Mountain, Mich.; one son, Jack Ballew and his wife, Linda, of Marshall; one daughter-in-law, Shirley Ballew of Houstonia; nine grandchildren, Robert Bakert, Eric Anderson, Donna Staton, Paula Staton, Connie Giffen, Christina Woodall, Malinda Tolin, Jacquline Ballew and Shantel Anderson; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Kathryn Robb of Jefferson City and Glori Sparks of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Ballew, three brothers and six sisters.
