Juanita R. Sartain, 82, of Slater, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater, with Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Charles Guthrie as he sings "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George White Jr., Tedd Wiseman, John Markovich, Donald Ray Durham, Donald Wood and Jeremiah Johnson. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association or Fitzgibbon Cancer Center.
Born Aug. 16, 1926, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Icy Pearl Johnson Tennill. On April 27, 1946, she married Floyd D. Sartain, who preceded her in death on June 6, 1977. She was a member of First Christian Church in Fayette, where she lived for a number of years before returning to Slater. She had worked at Ayers Dry Goods Store in Fayette and later Giger's in Slater.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Jolene "Jodie" York of Centralia; three grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marjorie Crigler and Lucille Wolfskill, both of Slater.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Earl Tennill, Roger Tennill, Russell Tennill, Jackie Tennill, Donald Tennill, Robert P. Tennill and two in infancy; and one sister, Dorothy Rude.
