Russell Leon Jackson, 80, of Slater, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at his home.
Private family funeral services were held Sunday, June 21, 2009, with burial and military honors at Slater City Cemetery, with Rev. Cliff Cato officiating. Memorials are suggested to Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born March 13, 1929, in Slater, he was the son of the late John L. and Daisy Mae Jones Jackson. On May 25, 1960, in Slater, he married Fannie P. "Cookie" Messer, who survives of the home. He was a member of Slater Church of God and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from Marshall Habilitation Center after 15 years of service in the maintenance department.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Boyd Sullivan of Marshall and Russell Jackson of Columbia; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; two brothers, Wilbur Jackson of Kite, Ga., and Wayne Jackson of Independence; and two sisters, Marietta Childers of Slater and Ruth Swartz of Independence.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, V.D. Jackson, John Jackson Jr. and an infant brother; and two sisters, Anna Marie Giger and Daisy June Kivett.
