William C. Walker, 96, of Marshall, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at his daughter's home in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Wayne Doolin officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Born May 2, 1913, in Greenfield, Okla., he was the son of the late William Isaac Walker and Lula Gerhart Walker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. On Sept. 14, 1946, he married Loree Fordyce, who preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 1987. He had lived in Marshall since moving from Kansas City in 1974. He retired from Whitaker Cable Company in North Kansas City and had also worked at Missouri Valley College. He was a member of First Baptist Church and VFW Post 2646 in Marshall and Raytown Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Merciez of Parkville and Nancy Walker of Kansas City; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Lois Cooper of Haughton, La., Virginia Allen of Greenfield and Vera Moon of Watonga, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lee Walker, and three sisters, Merle Dunlavy, Beulah Huckleberry and Naomi Walker.
