MEXICO -- The Marshall Fury 16-and-under softball team racked up 24 runs Sunday while winning a pair of games at Mexico.

Marshall beat the host team, comprised of several starters for the Lady Bulldogs, in the opener, 13-5, then claimed a 9-5 decision over Paris.

Liz Crews' two-run single put Mexico in front in the first inning, but the Fury took advantage of three free passes and pitches which got away to tally a pair of runs in the second. Singles by Allie Bockstetter and Chelsey Anderson helped bring in another run in the third.

Ann Baker doubled in a run and scored on Paislee House's single in the bottom of the third and Danielle Ingrum's double led to another run in the fourth for a 5-3 Mexico lead.

However, Anderson would stop the Sliders over the next three frames -- getting out of a two-on, one-out jam in the fifth -- and Marshall caught up with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth.

The Fury exploded for six runs in the sixth, and didn't need defensive miscues to do it. Stephanie Stark knocked in a pair of runs with a double and completed the circuit on Tara Bartel's two-bagger. An RBI single by Allie Bockstetter was followed by KaeLeigh Brown's two-run double for an 11-5 cushion.

Marshall tacked on two more runs in the seventh on singles by Megan Scott, Bartel and Emily Aldredge. Six of the Fury's runs were unearned, thanks to 13 passed balls.

Bartel singled in the first run of the nightcap as Marshall scored twice in the top of the first, but Paris caught up during its half of the inning on Shelby DeOrnellas' two-run single.

Lauren Russell shook off the shaky start by tossing five hitless stanzas, two errors in the third causing the only blemish on the scoreboard, and the Fury built a sizable lead -- scoring four runs in the third on three walks, two errors, six passed balls and Bartel's RBI triple.

Scott and Aldredge singled for a run in the fourth and Aldredge brought in another tally with a base hit in the sixth.

Paris made some noise in the bottom of the seventh when Kelsey Heitmeyer tripled in a run and crossed on a passed ball, but the tying run never came to the plate.

Bartel had four hits, scored six times and drove in four runs during the day for Marshall (4-4), which saw Monday's games in the Sedalia League washed out.
