Vesser also told the board that she wrote a letter on behalf of the school, expressing support for Rotary's bid to operate the license bureau in Marshall.
Marshall Superintendent Craig Noah also wrote such a letter, Vesser said, because Rotary provides many scholarships to area youth.
In her report, Vesser said the school will spend $5,000 to pay for professional development courses for elementary teachers in the coming school year. The school can use federal stimulus funds to cover the cost.
In other business, the board reviewed bids for mowing for the 2009-2010 school year. Only one bid was received: Richard Pittman, who currently mows for the school, bid $80 per mow, with additional charges for using weed killers and trimming shrubs.
"I don't think we've had any complaints with him this year," board Vice President Mindy Rigby said.
The board approved this bid.
Board President Art Madden and board members Doreena Forqueran, Jackie Plattner, Scott Moore, Susan Jansen and Casey Klein were also present at the meeting. Board secretary Debbie Kiser was present as well.
The board adjourned into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
The next regular meeting of the Malta Bend Board of Education is Thursday evening, July 9, at 7 p.m.
