Eugene K. Kays, 87, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Saline County, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, in Austin.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the family cemetery in Tuscumbia. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Tuscumbia. Memorials may be mailed to Seton Hospital, Seton Fund, 1201 W. 38th St., Austin, TX 78705.
He was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Warsaw, the son of William Pittman Kays and Mella Lea Walthall. He attended University of Missouri. On Aug. 10, 1946, in St. Charles, he married Shirley Alice Graham. He lived in Saline County for 24 years. He was a member of United Methodist Church. He worked as regional sales manager for Ecolab Inc. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Meredith Kays Wellington of Chevy Chase, Md., John Graham Kays, Jennifer Lea Kays and Terry Martha Kays, all of Austin; three grandchildren, Thomas Wellington, Randy Wellington and Henry Wellington; one sister-in-law, Virginia Kays; three nephews, James Kays, Edward Kays and Pittman Kays; and two nieces, Carla Kays Stark and Sandy Kays Hisle.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Russell Kays, Earl Kays, Norris "Jack" Kays, Donald Kays and J.P. Kays; three sisters, Faye Kays Anderson, Louise Kays Morrow and Evelyn Kays Bevis.
