Retired Master Sgt. Victor A. "Jim" Bieberly, 78, of Abilene, Texas, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in Abilene.
He was buried with full military honors in Texas Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
Born to Rudolph and Theresa Elizabeth Besser Bieberly on Dec. 18, 1930, in Protection, Kan., he was the third son of six boys, and spent most of his formative years in Slater. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and retired in 1973. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, he ended his 22-year military career serving as a B-52 tail gunner for the 337th Bomb Squadron. He flew more than 300 combat missions over Korea and Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara J. Wilson Bieberly; two brothers, Fred Bieberly of Marshall and Darrell Bieberly of Kansas City; four daughters, Lorilea Bieberly of San Angelo, Texas, Melanie Bieberly Copeland of Oologah, Okla., Kimberly Bieberly Vandiver of Saginaw, Texas, and Theresa Bieberly Wilkerson of Abilene; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Charles Bieberly of Marshall, Robert Bieberly of Oregon City, Ore., and Jerome Bieberly of Marshall.
