Commissioners approve ordinance for Slater enterprise zone

Saline County Commissioners discussed updates on Slater's proposed enhanced enterprise zone at their meeting Tuesday morning, June 9.

Commission members approved an amendment to the ordinance to establish an enhanced enterprise zone in Slater. This amendment, 2009-1A, "gives Slater the opportunity to work each individual deal," said Presiding Commissioner Becky Plattner, rather than setting an across-the-board ruling on the percentage of tax breaks a qualifying business will receive.

Sales tax collected is at $98,409.82 for June 2009, said Southern District Commissioner Richard "Dick" Hassler, which is up from last month's amount of $66,196.16, but still down from the total at this time last year by almost $13,500.

The commission also renewed a number of liquor licenses.

In addition to Plattner and Hassler, Northern District Commissioner Norvelle "Brownie" Brown was also present.
