As is tradition, a talent show was the background music of the Saline County BBQ Saturday, June 6. All afternoon, performers young and old took the stage to showcase their musical and dancing abilities for those assembled at the Saline County Fairground.

The talent show competition is divided into three age ranges.

In the 12 and under category, a group of baton twirlers from Marshall Dance Connection received first place. Harley Collette from Slater came in second after performing a few songs, including Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues," and accompanying himself on his guitar.

The trio called The Other Side of Country -- vocalist Bobby Garner, fiddler Dustin Conrad and guitarist Ryan Stone -- took first place in the talent show's age 13-21 category. They played two selections for the crowd: "Not Ready to Make Nice" by The Dixie Chicks and "My Immortal" by Evanescence.

Shane Bishop and Kurt Taylor, who performed a "dueling piano" duet, received second place in this category.

In what emcee Richard Clemens called the "age 21 to 106" category, Chris Flandermeyer took first place. He performed four songs for the judges, two he wrote himself and two by Neil Young.

Julia Snapp was awarded second place in that category.

Judges for the talent show were Tara Vogelsmeier, Hannah Perry and Paula Bear.

Dwight Gregor, also known as "Dr. D and the Pacemakers," filled the time in between performers with rock 'n' roll tunes played on his set of keyboards.
