Lauren Ann Weiker, 18, of Slater and Kaleigh Elizabeth Summers, 17, of Slater were named Saline County senior and junior fair queens, respectively, Saturday, June 6, at the Saline County BBQ.

Like all other candidates for senior queen, Weiker, daughter of Bethany and Jason Weiker, answered a question picked at random from a group of sealed envelopes held by emcee William Harlow. Her question asked how she defines success.

"Success is not getting a big paycheck," Weiker said. Rather, it is "being happy with what you are doing at all times, no matter what your job or career is."

Weiker will receive a complimentary photography session and 8- by 10-inch portrait from Tammy Kerksiek of LeeStudio in Marshall.

Summers, daughter of Kim and Bud Summers, received a journal from 2008 Junior Queen Morgan Fuehring, 18, of Sweet Springs. The journal has been passed down through the junior royalty since it was started in 2001, and contains a piece of advice from each of the junior queens during that time.

Runners-up for the title of junior queen were Rachel Elizabeth Thornton, 17, of Sweet Springs and Abby Renee Elson, 16, of Miami. The others junior queen candidates in the top six were, in no particular order, Brooke Schleicher, 15, of Sweet Springs, Mikaela Ann Henke, 14, of Marshall and Saria Christine Leimkuehler, 15, of Gilliam.

Fuehring was the runner-up for title of senior queen.

Weiker will represent Saline County during the Missouri State Fair in August.

So, why is it that the "Saline County" BBQ board purchased all the meat in "Lafayette County"? That is pathetic.

My mistake. Geoff had it right all along and I changed it early this morning. Thank you for pointing that out.

Lauren is the daughter of Jason and Bethany Weiker of Slater, not Sweet Springs.

Congratulations to both girls!
