Sarah Fuehring said the program costs $25 per person, and any woman over age 18 is welcome. Class sizes are limited to 20. Participants receive a pepper spray dispenser and a Power Up shirt. The first session was scheduled for May 26.
Fuehring said the June session is already halfway full, and no advertising has yet been done.
She also plans to take the program to schools and offer sessions with businesses. She expects those businesses that tend to be staffed by females to be interested in such sessions.
Those interested in attending or holding a session can contact Fuehring at powerupwomen@hotmail.com.
Executive Director of The Lighthouse Shelter Debbie Wallace gave the meeting's presentation. She spoke about the Miche bags that have recently been added to the Lighthouse Thrift Store's inventory. These purses have removable covers, allowing owners to quickly change the appearance of the purses. All proceeds from the sale of the purses go to benefit The Lighthouse Shelter.
The Lighthouse Shelter will host a car show at Indian Foothills Park Saturday, June 20. The fee for entering a vehicle is $10.
A motorcycle built by a Slater resident will be given away during the event.
Missouri Care will host Beach Bash: Swim Parties 2009 at a number of Missouri pools this summer. Tuesday, July 21, the party will be at the Marshall Municipal Pool Aquatic Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Entry fees will be provided, as will free snacks. All are welcome.
The council's next meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at the University of Missouri Extension office on South Lafayette Avenue.
