Concurrent 5-year sentences handed down for Ray and Land

Tuesday, May 26, 2009
Tabitha R. Land, 28, also known as Tabitha Holste, and Nicholas A. Ray, 24, were each sentenced to concurrent five year terms in Missouri DOC for forgery and receiving stolen property by Judge Dennis A. Rolf in Circuit Court Tuesday, May 26.

Ray pleaded guilty to class C felony receiving stolen property valued at $500 or more, and to class C felony forgery. Land/Holste pleaded guilty to similar charges.

Drug-related charges for both were dismissed as part of the plea bargain.

The two were arrested at a rural Nelson residence on New Year's Day 2009.

During a search of the property after the two were arrested, deputies identified numerous items of property reportedly stolen from Howard, Cooper and Moniteau counties and other property believed to have been stolen in Pettis and Saline counties and at least one county in Iowa. Saline County Sheriff Wally George estimated the value of the stolen property -- including several flat-screen television sets, a substantial amount of jewelry, two firearms and multiple electronic items -- at about $10,000.

In addition to the Saline County charges, both have charges pending elsewhere. Ray has outstanding warrants in Iowa for second-degree theft and identity theft, and a Grain Valley warrant for failure to appear, and Land/Holste has outstanding probation and parole warrants in Missouri.
