Monday, May 25, 2009

A Stark City man suffered minor injuries early Monday, May 25, when the tractor-trailer rig he was in overturned, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Thomas H. Kassner, 43, was taken by ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Kassner was a passenger in a truck driven by Gregory E. Kassner, also of Stark City.

The accident occurred about 5:10 a.m. nearly three-quarters of a mile south of County Road 427, according to the report.

The truck was northbound when it Gregory Kassner apparently lost control on wet pavement, troopers said.

The truck went off the left side of the road, struck a utility pole and a telephone box. The trailer overturned and came to rest on its top, according to the report.

The truck then caught fire and the fire spread to the trailer and cargo.

Thomas Kassner was not wearing a safety device, but Gregory Kassner was, according to the report.

According to unofficial reports, traffic was slowed through the area until early Monday afternoon while crews removed the truck and trailer.

Saline County sheriff's deputies assisted at the scene.
