"Our class gets along extremely well," said Vogelsmeier after she finished reminiscing. "...We know that with this class, we'll have many more (fun memories) in the coming four years of high school."
Ben Hays then presented the Marshall David Parson Mathematics Prize, worth $100, to Colline Winstead, the top math student of the year, and he made it clear the recipient has excelled in math during her entire academic career.
Joyce Knight presented the Daughters of the American Revolution Citizenship Award to Vogelsmeier.
Each of the 32 students then received a certificate of promotion from Principal Mike Smith, who is finishing out his final year at the school.
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Brent Snyder, sponsor of the class.
"I hope that you will embrace the challenges ahead of you in the ninth grade," he said before advising students to participate in interscholastic activities during their time in high school, and "above all, achieve academic excellence."
