The Lady Wildcats' distance runners helped propel them to the lead in team points on the track, 102-96 over Marceline. However, the Lady Tigers made up ground in the field, beating the Purple, 174-109.
The 3,200-meter relay (11:12.11) of senior Rachel Gonzalez, junior Niki Kruger and sophomores Brooke Clemons and Marissa Weiher won by seven seconds.
Kruger (5:55.15) and Gonzalez (6:13.04) finished 1-2 in the 1,600, with Kruger winning the 800 (2:39.23) and Gonzalez first in the 3,200 (13:12.03).
Sophomore Ana Jackson took second in the 200 (27.84 seconds) and third in the 100 (13.37). She also ran a leg in the second-place 800 relay (1:55.93) with Weiher, sophomore Jacqueline Anderson -- third in the 200 (28.26) -- and freshman Betty Goodman. Kruger, Goodman, Weiher and freshman Kaylee Holt finished second in the 1,600 relay (4:29.39).
Goodman added a silver medal in the 300 low hurdles (50.25) and bronze in the 100 hurdles (19.31). The Lady 'Cats also had fourth-place performances by Holt in the high jump (4-6) and freshman Danielle Allen in the discus (77 feet).
The Slater boys were third in the team scoring with 89 points, trailing Marceline (199.5 points) and Westran (92). The Wildcats were in second place after running events, but Westran accumulated 48 points in the three jumps to vault over them.
Juniors Cody Skinner in the 100 high (16.34) and 300 intermediate (42.22) hurdles and Jeremy Wilson in the 400 (51.45) were Slater's winners. Wilson ran second in the 200 (23.38) and freshman Adrian Clark placed third in the 100 (11.89).
Skinner, Wilson, Clark and sophomore Travis Holt led the 'Cats to second place in the 800 relay (1:38.05) -- with sophomore Zach Sullivan taking over the Holt in the runner-up 1,600 relay (3:47.19).
Sullivan medaled in three individual events, including third in the high jump (5-6).
Slater will be in the mix Saturday during the Class 1, District 5 Championships at Marshall.
