The Fayette junior tossed a shutout and provided all the runs he needed with a solo homer in the top of the first inning during a 5-0 victory over Slater in the play-in game of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament, the visiting Falcons' first win of the season.
Fayette had only one other earned run off sophomore Levi Thomas, who threw the first complete game of the season for the Wildcats. Senior Keyton Schweighauser's single scored the first of two runs for the Falcons in the sixth inning, the second coming in on an error.
A balk in the second inning scored sophomore Jonathan Palmer and Fayette tacked on two more runs on three miscues in the seventh.
Slater had a couple of good scoring opportunities. Sophomore Jacob Brumit walked and senior Derek Ballowe stroked a one-out single in the third, but both were stranded.
The 'Cats left the sacks packed after loading them with one out in the fifth on singles by Brumit and sophomore Levi Thomas and a hit batter.
Slater was still fighting in the bottom of the seventh, getting singles and steals from Holt and Ballowe to put both runners in scoring position -- but a comebacker to the mound ended the game.
The Falcons (1-3) will take on No. 1 seed Salisbury in Saturday's semifinal round at Moberly.
The 'Cats (2-6) are due to cross the Missouri River, albeit by a roundabout route with the Highway 240 bridge still out, for a non-conference contest at Glasgow today.

.........LEVI THOMAS..............
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
travis holt could not be pitching in this game because he was the second baseman.... it is a shame that the actual pitcher will never recieve credit for going the distance, striking out 9 batters, and holding the opposing team to just 5 runs....the correct info was sent to your paper..... unlike your paper, LEVI THOMAS put out a stellar performance on the mound... ask anyone on the other team.
