Marshall Community Chorus will hold its spring concert titled "Our American Journey" Sunday, April 19, at 3 p.m. in the Marshall High School Little Theater.
The concert will include material from different periods in American history, ranging from the music of the Puritans and other early settlers to more modern genres like Broadway and jazz tunes.
"The idea is to aurally paint a picture of how choral music in America has changed over the generations," Director Ron Sayer said.
Some songs that will be sung are "Turkey in the Straw," an example of the rural tradition of American music, and "A Handful of Keys," a Fats Waller piece. The choir will also perform some well-known patriotic and religious numbers, Sayer said.
"The audience should find numerous selections that they are familiar with and that may bring back fond memories," Sayer said.
Admission to the performance is free, and a reception will follow the concert.
