Elbert Vogelsmeier, 94, of rural Sweet Springs, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Columbia Regional Hospital in Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, with Rev. Dan Wing officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Born Dec. 7, 1914, in Sweet Springs, he was the son of the late John H. Vogelsmeier and Minnie Stork Vogelsmeier. On May 4, 1941, he married Martha Jane Carlton, who survives of the home. He had lived in Sweet Springs his entire life and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, serving on numerous boards and committees.
Additional survivors include one son, John C. Vogelsmeier of rural Sweet Springs; three grandsons; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Schlueter of Concordia; one brother, J.C. Vogelsmeier of Sweet Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, David Vogelsmeier; four brothers, Leonard, Melvin, Lester "Shorty" and Harold "Bud" Vogelsmeier; and one sister, Velma Frerking.
