MVC receives grant for Abraham Lincoln display

Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Missouri Valley College's Murrell Memorial Library has received a grant from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and will host "Looking at Lincoln: Political Cartoons from the Civil War Era," which is in celebration of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday.

The display will run from March 2 through March 31, and it is free and open to the public.

The display depicts the political issue of slavery during the time of the war.

These political cartoons were printed in newspapers, on flyers and sold as prints in some stores.

"We are thrilled to have this exciting national exhibit and our guest presenters available in our local community" said Pam Reeder, Murrell Library director.

The exhibition is open to the public and may be viewed from 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Fridays; from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays; and from 2 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Sundays in the Murrell Library.

Pre-scheduled tours for area schools will be available by contacting Bathsheba Love at 660-831-4180, or oveb@moval.edu.

For more information about the exhibit and dates and times of guest presenters contact Reeder at 660-831-4123 or reederp@moval.edu.

The Gilder Lehrman Institute also maintains two Web sites that may be viewed at www.gilderlehman.org or www.historynow.org.
