Lara L. Virden, 77, of Marshall, died Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Rev. Wayne Doolin will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Organist will be Ramona Bullington. Pallbearers will be Chris Brown, Riley Crawford, Dale Hayes, Jim Roberts, Bob Williams and George Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Ging, Tom Malan, Nathan Morrow, Mathaniel Mullins, Richard Rodden and Chris Williams. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. A memorial has been established to First Baptist Church Building Fund in care of Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home.
She was born Oct. 7, 1931, at Marshall, the daughter of the late Wilbur C. Wright and Bertha T. Compton Wright. On Oct. 11, 1952, she married Jim W. Mullins Sr.; he preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1982. She then married Clarence O. Virden on July 28, 1983; he preceded her in death on March 20, 2000. She was a resident of Marshall all her life and had been employed at Con Agra Foods from Oct. 23, 1962, until her retirement on April 29, 1994. She was a member of Gill Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jim W. Mullins Jr. of Sweet Springs and William "Bill" Mullins of Marshall; one daughter, Elizabeth A. Wright of Buffalo; one brother, Charles W. Wright of Marshall; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother.
