Hibdon charged with felonies after chase, returned to Saline County from Columbia hospital

Michael W. Hibdon, 41, of Grandview, who was the subject of a wild chase in Marshall Saturday, March 8, was charged Monday, March 9, with class C felony first degree tampering with a motor vehicle and class D felony resisting a lawful stop or detention.

Hibdon, who was injured in a one-vehicle crash Saturday, was released from a Columbia hospital Monday, March 9, and was placed under arrest by Columbia police.

Saline County sheriff's deputes took Hibdon into custody about 5:30 p.m. and transported him to the Saline County jail.

According to the probable cause statement, Hibdon created a "substantial risk of serious physical injury or death to other persons" as he fled through the city Saturday on College Avenue and Miami Street.

Hibdon was pursued last week by authorities in both Johnson and Pettis counties, where he is also wanted on several warrants. He is wanted in Saline County on three misdemeanor counts of harassment for threatening a Slater woman and her children in addition to the charges added over the weekend.

Conviction on the tampering charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in Missouri Department of Corrections, or up to one year in county jail and/or up to a $5,000 fine. In addition, he could face up to 4 years DOC or up to one year county jail and/or up to a $5,000 fine on the resisting and fleeing charge.

Michael G. Keithley
Michael G. Keithley, 24, of Bolivar, pleaded guilty Monday, March 9, to class B felony distribution, delivery or manufacture or attempted distribution, delivery or manufacture or possession or attempt to possess a controlled substance(s).

He was sentenced to 10 years in Missouri Department of Corrections by Judge Dennis A. Rolf as a persistent offender. Keithley has prior convictions for resisting arrest, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance in Polk and Saline Counties.

Justin Warren
Justin Warren, 20, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to two charges of class C felony theft in Associate court Monday, March 9, in connection with the theft of cameras and other items from RadioShack and Wal-Mart in Marshall.

Warren, who received two concurrent seven-year sentences to Missouri Department of Corrections from Judge Dennis A. Rolf, is awaiting sentencing in Pettis County on other theft charges, and in Jackson County on five counts of class B felony drug charges of distribution/delivery/manufacture/production or possession with intent or attempt to possess with intent to distribute-deliver-manufacture-produce drugs and one count of class A felony drug trafficking in the first degree.

Jose S. Arevalo
Jose S. Arevalo, 37, of Marshall, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and was sentenced to five years in Missouri Department of Corrections. He will also serve a 30-day sentence in Saline County Justice Facility on a charge related to the same incident.

Noting three previous DWI convictions in the state of New York and one previous DWI conviction in Missouri, Judge Dennis A. Rolf cited Arevalo as a "prior, persistent, aggravated and chronic offender" in assigning the sentence.

Magon N. Kateman
Magon N. Kateman, 17, of Marshall, pleaded guilty Monday, Mar. 9, to two counts of class C felony second-degree burglary and was sentenced by Judge Dennis A. Rolf to five years of state-supervised probation on each charge, to run concurrently.

Kateman was arrested with two other Marshall teens, Terrance J. Blackmore, 17, and Robert D. Scharnhorst, also 17, in November 2008 in connection with a string of burglaries at several local businesses.

Blackmore and Scharnhorst earlier pleaded guilty and received similar sentences.

In addition to probation, all three are required to complete a GED program, to write letters of apology to the businesses they stole from and to share payment of restitution of more than $12,000. All three are also required to serve 30 days of "shock" incarceration at Saline County Justice Facility.
