(UPDATED 8:50 a.m.) Man wanted on warrants crashes stolen vehicle in Saline County

Saturday, March 7, 2009
After being pursued briefly by local law enforcement officers in Marshall Saturday, March 7, a Pleasant Hill man wanted on misdemeanor harassment charges in Saline County later crashed what turned out to be a stolen vehicle and was apprehended, according to Sheriff Wally George.

Michael W. Hibdon, 41, was spotted heading east on College Street at the intersection with U.S. Highway 65 Saturday afternoon by sheriff's deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers.

When deputies attempted to stop Hibdon, he drove off at a high rate of speed, according to the report.

Hibdon was driving erratically, deputies said, heading east on College Street and then north on Miami Avenue, narrowly avoiding a collision, and George ordered deputies to end the chase for safety reasons.

Hibdon -- who has a number of outstanding arrest warrants against him from several counties -- reportedly had been briefly pursued Friday by Pettis County and Johnson County authorities, too, George said.

About 5:20 p.m. -- an hour after the chase in Marshall -- deputies learned that Hibdon had crashed the truck he was driving, according to George.

Deputies said Hibdon was reportedly in a residence near the intersection of Highway 41 and Route NN occupied by a teen and two children.

Hibdon was observed in the residence and was taken into custody by a trooper.

Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers located the pickup truck Hibdon was seen driving in Marshall. The truck apparently had rolled over several times and come to rest in a field on its top, according to the report.

Troopers determined that the vehicle was reported stolen in Belton, George said.

A Saline County Ambulance District No. 3 crew responded to the scene and determined that Hibdon's injuries were serious enough to require transport by air ambulance to a Columbia hospital, according to deputies.

I was coming out of Bogey's headed to China Inn when this crazy stuff was going on. Thank god for the law enforcement, Fire Dept, and EMS in this county!! They are TRUE professionals! Now, lets hope the judicial system works so this p.o.s. gets locked up and doesn't kill some innocent family!!!

sorry hit the button to soon.

I am glad no one else was hurt. This could have been really bad. It was not fair to the families out for the day enjoying time together.

I know the woman that he threatend and believe that he was going to her house. He was out of control and who knows if he would have hurt her and their children that they have together, I know that she and her family are greatly relived. The Sheriff's Department did "ONE HELL OF A JOB", Sheriff George should be very proud of the fine Deputies that he has working and representing him in the field. BRAVO

Thanks, Hibdon, for caring about yourself instead of the children playing at McDonalds, or other families out trying to enjoy their weekend. Unbelievable......Enough said!!
