Adventures in Libraryland: Book renewal and other services available online

Thursday, March 5, 2009

I ran into an acquaintance about a week ago and he was telling me that he's been going over the library in Columbia a lot. He said he enjoyed the services they have. Particularly he liked the way he could renew his books online and also that he could request a specific title from the comfort of his own home and then just run in the library where they would have it waiting for him at the front desk.

Well, I was shocked!

Not because he went visiting another library -- no, I was surprised because I thought he knew that the Marshall Public Library offers both of those services.

I guess I thought everyone knew!

So please allow me to elucidate: If you are interested in renewing the materials you have checked out, you can do so on our website (www.marshallpublib.org).

Once you are in the catalog, look for the words "My Account." When you click on those words, you will be prompted to enter your library card number and your password.

The password is your pin number. (If you've forgotten your pin number, our friendly staff can give it to you the next time you're in the library.)

After logging in, you will be able to view what you currently have checked out and there's an option to renew them. Please note that if your books are already overdue, the system will not allow you to renew them.

I hope this has been helpful for you. Next week -- placing holds online!
