The body was found by a commercial fisherman about 1:50 p.m. near Stump Island at mile marker 231.9, they said.
Chariton County Sheriff Chris Hughes and his officers arrived at the scene first, and at George's request, Hughes took the scene photographs, removed the body from the river and transported it by boat to the city of Glasgow, where he met Saline County officers.
Saline County sheriff's officers, at the request of Saline County Coroner Willie Harlow, transported the body to Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall and the body was released into the coroner's custody.
"As of Sunday, Feb. 8, we do not have a positive identification of the female, and will be comparing dental records of all missing white females from our mid-state area on Monday, Feb. 9 in an effort to positively identify the victim," George and Harlow reported.
Identification could take some time to complete, they said. When positive identification has been made and next of kin notified, more information will be released to the media.
"There will be no further information released from the sheriff or the coroner in reference to this body recovery until we have completed our investigation, have identified the body, and made certain that no foul play was involved in her death," they said.
