Attempted burglary reported by rural Sweet Springs resident

Monday, February 2, 2009

A rural Sweet Springs woman reported an attempted burglary Saturday afternoon, Jan. 31, according to a Saline County Sheriff's Department report.

The woman told deputies her daughter saw an older full-sized panel van approach the home. A man got out of the van and tried to open the front door. He then drove the van to the rear of the home and tried to enter through the back door, according to the report.

The woman's daughter yelled and the man ran to the van and left, deputies said. As he was leaving, the van struck a wooden fence.

The subject was described as a young man wearing a black hoodie. The van was described as a light gray panel van with rear windows.

Sheriff Wally George urged anyone with information about the subject or the van to call his office at 660-886-5511. Callers are not required to provide their names, he said.

No, not the van color...it was gray, correct. I am referring to his question of race. The man was white. Sorry for the confusion.

Have you contacted the sheriff's department with this information? The report said the color was light gray.

What color was the young male suspect....white, black, or other? Or has the Democrat News gotten so "politically correct" that it chooses not to give all of the information. The race of the suspect is vitally important information for other potential victims to have.

If they know the suspect was "young" and "male" than it is likely they also know the race. Since they saw the van it might be helpful to tell us the color of it also!

The sheriff's department report did not include more details about the suspect's appearance.
