Anderson, Berning hearing postponed

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

A sentencing hearing scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, for Spencer T. Anderson and Daniel R. Berning, has been postponed due to weather conditions elsewhere in the state.

Saline County Sheriff Wally George reported Wednesday, Jan. 28, that icy conditions and power outages at Missouri Department of Corrections facilities at Licking, where Berning is serving a sentence for burglary, and at Charleston, where Anderson is also serving a burglary sentence, will make it impossible for the two to be moved to Saline County in time for the hearing.

Berning's hearing has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 1:30 p.m. in Saline County Courthouse before Judge Robert L. Koffman. A new date for Anderson's hearing has not been set.

Anderson and Berning were to be sentenced on charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the deaths of Richard and Jessie Shepard in June 2006.
