Tuesday, January 27, 2009
Christopher Fuehring, 27, of Blackburn, was sentenced Monday, Jan. 26, to three concurrent terms in Missouri Department of Corrections for a July 2007 burglary and knife attack at a rural Sweet Springs residence.

Fuehring pleaded guilty to class C felony assault in the second degree, for which he was sentenced to seven years, and class B felony burglary in the first degree and felony armed criminal action, for which he was sentenced to 15 years each.

Fuehring had been held at Saline County Justice Facility on a $50,000 cash-only bond since his apprehension in July 2007.

I have known Chris and his family for many, many years. He rode my school bus for about 6 years and was the gentlest young man I've ever known. In all that time, I never knew him to be anything but kind and gentle. When he talked to me, he was always smiling. He always sat a few seats behind me, reading historical novels. He loved Garth Brooks; loved for me to play his tapes on the bus. I still have a Christmas card Chris made for me circa 14 years ago. I will keep it always. Chris and brother Bill were adopted when they were just 3 and 2. They were raised by wonderful parents, who loved them dearly, on a farm. All he ever wanted to do was farm with his Dad. In a perfect world, there should have been a happy ending. Instead, there is this. This was completely out of character for him. When I found out what the outcome of the trial was, I sobbed.

I never dreamed he would ever be convicted. .

I think it's easier when the person you are judging, doesn't have a face or history. But I wanted to tell you about Chris and his family.

May the Lord watch over and protect him in the years to come. Chris's Bus Driver, Becky

This is such a sad, sad story. Never would have believed if you had told me 15 years ago that this was going to be the outcome of this young man's life. I feel bad for the victims, the boy's family but most of all I feel real sadness for this young man. He needs help but don't think the D.O.C. is where he will get it. He can serve the whole 15 years but I don't think he will be the better for it unless he gets some help.

I'm no lawyer or judge, but I'm pretty sure that a conviction of armed criminal action requires that 85% of the sentence must be served.

Three Concurrent terms...Been in Saline County Jail a year and a half, so he will get that credit right off the top, so he will do about a fourth of his time...Maybe!!

I feel our Country needs to go to the truth in sentencing act. At least when someone is sentenced to prison, that is the time they will do, not a month or two on the year, which is decided by the political hum-bug at the head of D.O.C.
