Winter weather contributes to 1-car crash near Malta Bend

A 20-year-old Marshall man suffered minor injuries Monday night in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 65 near Malta Bend, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Joshua A. Downs was northbound about 10:13 p.m. when he lost control of the 2005 Ford he was driving on ice-covered roadway.

The vehicle went off the right side of the road into a ditch, according to the report.

Downs apparently overcorrected, and the vehicle returned to the roadway and overturned, troopers said.

Downs was wearing a safety belt. He was taken to Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, according to the report.
