Mildred L. Early, 94, of Marshall, formerly of Smithville, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Second Creek Cemetery in Linkville, with visitation held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Arley United Methodist Church in Arley. Born Dec. 16, 1914, in Linkville, she was the daughter of the late Bennie Spicer and Lena Belle Vance Spicer. On Oct. 14, 1938, she married Robert Early, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1975. She was a 1933 graduate of Smithville High School and had lived in the Kansas City area most of her life, moving to Marshall in 1999. She was a retired secretary for Farmers Insurance Company in Kansas City, Kan. She was a member of Arley United Methodist Church, where she had served as secretary for Arley U.M.C. Women.
Survivors include one brother-in-law, John Early of Conroe, Texas; five nephews, Alan Criswell of Marshall, Ben Spicer and Bill Spicer, both of Kansas City, Bobby Early of Santa Barbara, Calif., and John Early of Phoenix, Ariz.; one niece, Billie Diaz of Seal Beach, Calif.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Early in infancy; three brothers, B.F. Spicer, Melvin Spicer and Billy Mac Spicer; and one sister, Betty Lee Criswell.
