Rolla J. Plattner, 81, of rural Grand Pass, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Waverly Christian Church in Waverly, with Rev. Bill Koch officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Grand Pass Community Cemetery. Born April 27, 1927, in Grand Pass, he was the son of the late Ernest Plattner and Eunice Coad Plattner. On Nov. 9, 1947, he married Marie Oetting, who preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2001, after 53 years of marriage. On Feb. 14, 2005, he married Mary Louise Schmidt Plattner, who survives. Outside of his family, farming was his passion, which he enjoyed his entire life. He was an active member of Waverly Christian Church, where he was recently selected as elder emeritus. He was a member of Saline County Farm Bureau for over 50 years, having served on the board for many of those years.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Joy Overacre and her husband, Roy, of Columbia, Pat Kriss and her husband, Ron, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Shelley Buford of Alma; two sons, Dave Plattner and his wife, Marilyn, of Odessa, Fla., and Rodney Plattner and his wife, Debi, of Kansas City; one daughter-in-law, Pam Plattner of Grand Pass; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Jay Plattner, and two brothers, Russell Plattner and Randall Plattner.
