Vesper A. Mills, 91, of Marshall, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Rev. Russ Johnson will officiate. Organist Ramona Bullington will play "Beyond The Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers will be Allen Gross, Glenn Gross, Jimmy Mills, Ricky Mills, Rusty Mills and Aaron Stockman. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Sweeney-Reser-Wills Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials have been established to Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice or to the donor's choice.
She was born Oct. 9, 1917, in Warsaw, the daughter of the late Jess and Naomi Schouton Sapp. On Aug. 15, 1934, in Sweet Springs, she married Everett Mills, who preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 1981. She had been employed at International Shoe Factory in Marshall for over 35 years before her retirement. She had joined the Foster Grandparent Program in 1991 and had served for over 15 years. She was a member of Gill Memorial Baptist Church in Marshall.
Survivors include one son, Charles E. Mills of Marshall; two daughters, Alberta Griffitt and Barbara Stockman, both of Marshall; one sister, Helen Miller of Gladstone; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Eugene Mills; five brothers; one sister; and one great-grandson.
