Vote to suspend Thomas was unanimous, but not all board members were present

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

In an executive session last Thursday, Jan. 8, the Saline County Health Department Board of Trustees voted to place Administrator Gayle Thomas on administrative leave.

At the request of The Marshall Democrat-News, the board released the results of the vote, which was unanimous among the board members present at the meeting.

Board member Virgie Simmerman was not present at the meeting because she was not notified about it, due to a "breakdown in communication," she said.

The board plans to meet again in closed session Thursday morning, Jan. 15, at 9 a.m. to discuss matters of personnel.

  • I think we as a county need to start focusing on all our reisdents in need of Health care. There use to be a free clinic for those who were in need and could not afford it. Now everything is focused on mothers and children. That we have neglected to provide decent care for all. Many people can not afford insurance and the non-adjusted rates to see a Doctor. So now they go till they can't anymore. Are sent from local facilities because they can't pay and are treated as second class citizens. Maybe Saline Co. needs to step-up and take care of their own. Think about this when choosing who to fill positions.
