Ruth Younger, 85, of Nelson, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with visitation following until 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Salt Fork Cemetery in Cooper County. Born Feb. 15, 1923, in Dallas County, she was the daughter of the late Ed Harris and Etta Potts Harris. She had lived in Nelson the last 62 years, moving from Dallas County, and was a retired federal meat inspector. She was a member of Nelson Methodist Church, Marshall Chapter 408 Order of the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi and American Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a former mayor of Nelson, a judge of the Election Committee in Nelson and a committeewoman for the Democratic Party. She served on the Marshall Senior Center Board, was a member of the Nelson/Blackwater Senior Center and was a benefactor for the children in Nelson.
Survivors include one daughter, Pam Waterman and her husband, Jordan, of Blue Springs; and three granddaughters, Kristen Waterman Kamath and her husband, Manju, Angela Rogers and her husband, Ben, and Natalie Waterman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Flodell Clark, and two brothers, Gilbert Harris and Lowell Harris.
