Hilda Topel Duffer, 92, of Marshall, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Wayne Doolin and Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Arrow Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church. Born July 26, 1916, in Cooper County, she was the daughter of the late Emil Topel and Hulda Leimkuehler Topel. In June 1959, she married David M. Duffer, who preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1982. She had lived in the Saline and Cooper County area her entire life and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Marshall and its Fidellis Sunday School class.
Survivors include two stepsons, Edwin Duffer and his wife, Marlyn, of Higginsville and David Paul Duffer and his wife, Judy, of Marshall; two nephews, George Topel and his wife, Jeanne, of Blackburn and Joe Topel and his wife, Maggie, of Marshall; numerous step-grandchildren and their families; and one sister-in-law, Bessie Topel of Blackwater.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one stepson, Harold Thomas Duffer; one stepdaughter, Velma Sheffer; one step-grandson, Keith Duffer; and four brothers, Fritz Topel, George Topel, Ben Topel and Arnold Topel.
