Tabitha R. Land, 28, also known as Tabitha Holste, and Nicholas A. Ray, 24, were each charged Friday, Jan. 2, with four offenses, according to unofficial online court records:
--class B felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute,
--class C felony receiving stolen property, $500 or more,
--class C felony possession of a controlled substance and
--class D felony possession of anhydrous ammonia in a nonapproved container.
Bond was set for each at $20,000, cash only.
The two were arrested at a rural Nelson residence, according to Saline County Sheriff Wally George.
Ray was apprehended as he allegedly attempted to flee the residence, George said.
In addition to the new charges, Ray also has outstanding warrants in Iowa for second-degree theft and identity theft, and a Grain Valley warrant for failure to appear, according to George.
Land also has an outstanding probation and parole warrant from Missouri, in addition to the other charges.
During a search of the property, deputies identified numerous items of property reportedly stolen from Howard, Cooper and Moniteau counties and other property believed to have been stolen in Pettis and Saline counties and at least one county in Iowa.
George estimated the value of the stolen property -- including several flat-screen television sets -- at about $10,000.
Also recovered were numerous items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, two firearms, multiple electronic items and a substantial amount of jewelry, according to George.

This is to all of you who are quick to judge someone you know nothing about, only what you have read or heard thru the grapevine. Yes my son has gotten himself into a lot of trouble by making very wrong choices in life. Drugs have a way of changing a persons way of thinking an their entire behaviors. My son "was" raised in a home where the father was at work an the mom stayed home. He "was" raised in a Christian home with both parents. Yes he was in prison. 5 years ago! for breaking probation. Meth gets a hold on these kids an they don't know the destruction an harm that it brings with them. I am by no means making excuses for my son, an I apologize to all the people that he has hurt in one way or another. I am just trying to say good kids go bad also. He will pay for his mistakes for a long time, In Matthew ch. 7 it states:
Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
I have a couple of comments to make. First, the boy was not from nelson, he did not even live there, i work with the father. the boy is from Iowa and has been out of prison not even a year for meth. the father left for 3 weeks to visit his grandchildren from his daughter in Iowa. after that the boy came by with all the items found in the story. the father's mother and sister lived with him because their house burned down and they needed a place to live. they called the father in iowa and told him what was happening, he knew the son had multiple warrents for his arrest in iowa. he found out what was going on, the stolen guns, jewelry, drugs and everything so he called the police. worked with them for a while and it was not untill the boy was about to leave for iowa that police took action. the boy needed a wake up call. he was out of control and needed to be stopped. he also used one of the guns he stole and shot the windows out of his car with his girlfriend inside. i am sorry, but the boy was not going to find god. he was just going to hurt himself along with others.
it is refreshing to see readers talking about the fact that we need to turn to GOD, instead of saying throwing people away. thank you so much "news across" you made my night. god bless you.
nougatocity...
...you certainly make some good points there. However, I think if more folks would seek God's divine guidence in life and attend the church or temple of their choice on a regular basis, we would have far fewer drug and alcohol problems in this World.
Another good start would be to solve the problem of having to have two parents work to support the family. We need one of them in the home. Young people of today have no idea what they are missing within their homes not being able to focus on the family and one another. They are always dealing with getting up and having to go to work the next day etc. Is that the American Dream? Our one best commodity, our children, are not being treasured enough and the results are staring us in the face.
jck...
...I am in full agreement with you that we do indeed need to make our towns safe and comfortable for all residents.
Illicit drug use and drunkeness are not the kinds of things hard working, honest families want their children to be around and rightly so.
The big question is how to deal with these problems. Certainly tossing the drug dealers in prison and throwing away the key is a good start, but unfortunately, putting non-dealer, drug-users in prison only seems to make their drug problems worse. In my humble opinion, the solution is to find ways to get more folks interested in finding God and the salvation only he can offer. In the end only God has the cure for drug and alcohol addiction. Most towns have churches and temples, and most churches and temples have active clergy,
professional ministers, lay ministers, and/or rabbis who are serving our Lord by ministering to the addicted in addition to their other services to God. These good folks have the answer to addiction problems.
I don't think we can beat these drug and alcohol problems in our communities in just one generation. Its going to take years to solve these problems, but a good start would be getting more folks to join and attend church or temple services on a regular basis.
jkc so you think marshall is safe, the drugs were about 4 miles south of nelson, did you read were the people are from,
jck,
Im not posting to defend Nelson or any other place. I just think readers need to know that when the name of the town is preceded by "rural" it means the location is actually outside the City Limits of that town. As in rural Marshall, rural Slater and so on. I know the residence of these two is several miles away from Nelson.
The whole town of nelson is nothing but drugs and alcholics, except for a select few. The kids run wild with no supervision, drive vehicles with no driver license's. The is no parental control and very little law enforcement. A lot of these small towns that used to be safe for our kids to grow up are now full of drugs. We need to take our communities back.I am not from nelson or the immideate area but my son lived there for a while and its a terrible place for a kid to grow up. Please take time to listen to what your kids have to say and maybe we can safe them from the drugs and alchol
