Marie (Herman) Lakin, 88, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at her home in Independence.
Pallbearers were Chris Lakin, Blaine MaGee, Chase Shackles, Gary Grigsby, Steve MaGee and David Shackles. Honorary pallbearers were Eric Lakin and Eric Bullard. Memorial donations can be made to The Show Me Christian Youth Home, 24302 Mahin Road, P.O. Box 6, La Monte, MO 65337-0006. Burial was in Floral Hills Memorial Garden, Kansas City.
She was born Ruby Edna Marie Herman, southeast of Slater, Jan. 6, 1920, the daughter of the late Herbert Henry Herman (Herrmann) and Pearl Mae Officer. On Dec. 28, 1935, she married Raymond Edgar Lakin. She lived most of her life in Raytown. She worked at Atlantic Spartan and at Trinity Lutheran Hospital. She was a charter member of Westridge Christian Church of Raytown. She was a member of Legacy Christian Church of Lee's Summit.
She is survived by three sons, Edgar Lee Lakin of Topeka, Kan., David Gene Lakin of Lee's Summit and Kenneth Wayne Lakin of Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Ramona Shackles of Lee's Summit and Cathy Bullard of Independence; one sister, Nellie Grigsby of Warrensburg; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nephews and a niece.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; five brothers, Herbert Franklin, Herbert Hadley, Henry Herbert, Charles and Lester; and three sisters, Kathryn Herman, Odel (Herman) Yung and Eula (Herman) Bullard.
