A celebration of the life of Mary Kathryn (Christie) Wills will be held Wednesday, December 17, at Grace United Methodist Church, Higginsville, at 10:30 a.m. Mary Kathryn left this world December 13, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, and continues to share her love with others.
She was born July 17, 1945, in Rolla, to Cynthia and Bill Christie, who preceded her in death. Mary Kathryn's childhood years were spent in Houston, where she graduated from high school in 1963. She attended Central Methodist College, Fayette, receiving a Bachelor of Arts, and Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, receiving a Master of Science in education.
Kathy, as she was known by her friends, lived in the Waverly-Higginsville area for over 40 years. She taught in Richmond schools for her first year and then transferred to the Santa Fe R-10 district, Waverly and Alma, where she taught English and French and served as the elementary and high school librarian. Many students would come to Kathy for her guidance. She retired after 30 years of dedicated service to the public schools.
Kathy married Ernie Wills of Waverly and they were blessed with a loving relationship of over 34 years. Together, they have anticipated the first blooms of spring and the Christmas season, which were Kathy's favorite times of the year.
She is survived by her husband, Ernie, two brothers and their wives, Art and Carolyn Christie, Oklahoma City, and Dan and Flicky Christie, St. Louis. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephew, and many, many cousins. Kathy will continue spreading her love by her gift of organ donation.
Memorials in her honor may be made to Robertson Memorial Library, Higginsville; Grace United Methodist Church, Higginsville; or Elementary and High School Libraries at Santa Fe R-10 School District. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday, December 16, 7 to 8:30 pm at Kaiser-Wiegers Funeral Home, Higginsville. Following the celebration of her life, internment will be at the Waverly Cemetery.
