Pedestrian hit by car near Emma early Sunday / Sweet Springs woman suffers minor injuries

A Sweet Springs woman suffered minor injuries early Sunday, Dec. 7, when she was struck by a car while walking along Old Highway 40 near Emma, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Lori A. Merrick, 38, was taken by private vehicle to I-70 Medical Center in Sweet Springs following the apparent hit-and-run accident, according to the report.

Merrick was walking along the road about 1 1/2 miles east of Main Street in Emma at 12:10 a.m. when she apparently was struck by a vehicle's side mirror, troopers said.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene, according to the report.

The investigation continues.
