The Owls opened the season by leading at the end of every quarter but the fourth one.
The Tigers trailed by four points heading down the stretch, but senior Josh Klein nailed a pair of three-pointers and Sidebottom hit another one to lead the charge.
Marshall didn't help its cause by missing nine of 17 free-throw attempts during the fourth quarter.
Senior Phil Perkins and junior Matt Buford combined for nine points during the second period to give the Owls a 22-18 halftime advantage. The margin was still four points after three quarters, junior Nathan Cato tallying eight points during the stanza.
Once Versailles got going, though, it wasn't going to be stopped during the extra period. Sidebottom struck outside and made a lay-up to pull in front, and the Tigers sank four of six from the charity stripe to preserve their lead.
Klein finished with 17 points for Versailles (1-1), which must wait until Thursday's clash between the Owls and Grain Valley -- who beat the Tigers on Monday, 43-25 -- to find out for which trophy it plays Friday.
Cato had 17 points and six rebounds and Buford contributed 11 points and seven boards for Marshall (0-1) -- which shot only 32.6 percent from the field, including one of 16 from three-point range.

Hey sports editor....at least you could have taken a current picture of Phillip Perkins instead of running one a year old that was printed in your paper last year! Or perhaps you weren't at the game?
